Education, the Foundation of Every Child’s Hope
Our School is Thriving, So . . .
We are dramatically expanding our scholarship program – thanks to you
Our new sponsorship coordinator, Reina. Fun fact: she studied at COAR from 5th-9th grade. COAR did not have a high school until 1996, so after 9th grade, she left to continue her education. After a successful business career, she hopes to help others get the same opportunity, but now at her alma mater: COAR.
COAR has always had a scholarship program, of course. Throughout the 90’s and early 2000’s, we had as many as 150 younger children who lived at COAR with a total school enrollment of 500. The tuition and other school expenses for them (supplied by you) amounted to as much as a third of the school’s income. As the prestige of the school has grown, its enrollment has grown to 1,000. We particularly attracted tuition-paying families. That is the sustainability that we seek: those tuitions helped to subsidize scholarships for the poorer students throughout the area. When the MNSdP nuns arrived in 2014 (see page 1), they began renewed outreach to our poorer families.
This program now reaches 90 students. We expect to double that by the end of next year. After that, the school administration and the nuns will continue to expand the program to the greatest advantage to the community and the students (see more from our Programs Director, Susan).
In addition, you’ll see announcements of more teachers, more specialized teachers, and new programs. You are making this vision a reality. You are reaching every one of these teachers, administrators, and of course, each student, each life, giving them an opportunity for a better future, a better community, a better world. (Too much? No! 🙂 )
